Yet, humility today appears to be not only the rarest, but the most despised of all virtues. As such it is replaced by arrogance, haughtiness and self-righteousness. All these are forms of pride - the most ancient, and the most evil of all vices. But the greatest pride can only be defeated by the greatest humility - thus the great pride of Satan (Man?) was defeated by the greatest act of humility - the creator of all things allowing Himself to be tortured, humiliated as a criminal, and killed on the cross.
Pride cannot defeat pride, when these two meet face-to-face, each escalates in its self-righteousness, anger and misguided zeal. Therefore to defeat this enemy - which is destroying mankind spiritually - as many of us as possible must follow the life of Christ as Saint Francis did - we must leave our prideful, selfish lives and seek instead humility and poverty - i.e seek to make as few demands on our fellow men, and nature, as possible.
"Life is hard for Prince and Pauper", each has his challenges, each is human and should be treated as such. Only with love and forbearing can we help each other. We need healers who bring balm where there is inflamation and tension, rather than further opening wounds. As such leave the judgment to God and instead be a salve for human hurt, suffering and anger.
